The Conflict Resolution Center – St. Louis (CRCSTL) empowers people to resolve conflict through accessible mediation, coaching, and education. We aim to be a leader in promoting peaceful, lasting and effective solutions to conflict in St. Louis and the surrounding area, primarily through the facilitation and education of our mediation services. CRCSTL mediates conflicts between city employees and/or their supervisors, neighbors, civilians and the police, as well as other conflicts in St. Louis. We are committed to resolving disputes in the region, including cases with and without pending legal matters. 

Position Summary 

This position assists with the implementation of CRCSTL's Student-Led Peer Mediation Programming. The Student-Led Peer Mediation program trains young people, primarily middle and high school aged, on social-emotional skills, de-escalation, and how to resolve and mediate conflict amongst their peers. Trainings are primarily conducted in schools, public libraries, or CRCSTL office space. The Coordinator will report to the Student-Led Peer Mediation Program Manager. This position will require some early morning and evening hours, depending on the needs of the school and students.

Areas of Responsibility

  1. Designing and implementing SLPM program curriculum in area schools.

  2. Creating lesson plans, conducting initial peer mediation training, and hosting monthly support training/check-ins with partner schools,

  3. Providing technical assistance to participants where needed, including case-by-case support,

  4. Coordinating metrics with partners and evaluator, ensuring deliverables are tracked for grant reporting, and completing grant reports,

  5. Collecting data from participant schools and supporting Manager with grant reporting,

  6. Meeting regularly with team and volunteers to coordinate and discuss objectives,

  7. Ensuring objectives are met in a timely fashion, and

  8. Other duties as assigned that further the CRCSTL mission. 

Professional Qualifications 

The ideal candidate would possess the following: 

  • Experience working with middle and high school students strongly preferred (experience with Peer Mediation Programs is a plus); 

  • Ability to travel to and from schools (mileage will be reimbursed) with occasional need for lifting of boxes and materials required;

  • Comfort with speaking to small to medium sized groups of people required;

  • Experience serving as a volunteer for a non-profit strongly preferred;

  • Master’s Degree in education, conflict resolution, or similar field or equivalent experience preferred; 

  • Experience working with volunteers preferred; 

  • Experience with mediation preferred; 

  • Experience working with people from diverse cultural, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds; 

  • Strong written and spoken communication skills; and 

  • Creative and innovative approaches to reaching community members. 

As this position involves working with youth, the candidate will need to pass a background check in order to be eligible for this position. 

This role is funded by a grant for 2 years. Our goal is to apply for renewed funding at that time, but there is no guarantee the role will continue after that time.

Compensation 

Salary for this role is $45,000 and includes a full benefits package.
