Mediation in Practice

Course Overview

Conflict Resolution Center-St. Louis is excited to offer an educational opportunity that will provide mediators with hands-on experience in the field of mediation. Guided by professional mediators, this unique program will provide a pathway to learn skills to excel in the field of mediation. This program is a hybrid, meeting both online and in-person.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the fundamentals of successful mediation

  • Gain the experience to guide participants to mutual understanding

  • Advance your knowledge in conflict de-escalation

  • Determine when and how the caucus rooms are utilized

  • Discover how and when co-mediation is advantageous

Who should attend:

New and experienced mediators who desire hands-on training and mentorship

Program Requirements:

  • Completion of Missouri Rule 17 Mediation Training is mandatory

Educational Program Components

  • Mediation in Practice Orientation

  • Understanding Legal and Community Mediation

  • Fundamentals of Mediation Part 1

  • Fundamentals of Mediation Part 2

  • Fundamentals of Mediation Part 3

  • The Basics of Having Your Own Mediation Practice Parts 1 & 2

  • Conflict De-Escalation and Management for Mediators

  • Mediator Office Hours & Monthly Listening Sessions

  • Mediation Observations at Court (2 days)

Residency Program Components: 

Join us for three days of hands-on training at CRCSTL’s offices. Our workshops include:

  • Agreement drafting,

  • Three full-length mediation roleplays,

  • Conflict coaching training, and

  • Conflict coaching roleplays

We encourage marginalized communities to apply for mediation training.

Scholarship Information:

  • A limited number of scholarships are available. To be considered for a scholarship award, you must meet all of the following criteria:

    • Reside in Missouri

    • Demonstrate financial need

    • Commit to volunteering for one year with CRCSTL

    • Let us know that you’d like to be considered for a scholarship in your program application
